You’ve got 5 seconds to come up with 3 names of a specific category. Sound easy? It is…and it isn’t!
To play 5 Second Rule, players must guess 3 words in a specified category before the timer ends. If the player gives 3 acceptable answers, they gain one point. Play continues around the table until one player accrues enough predetermined amount of points.

Game Play
Own the game? Then you’re first in the hot seat! Pass the timer and box of cards to the player to the right of the host, who begins in the “hot seat”.
Decide which side of the card side you’ll use, yellow or red. Every card begins with “Name 3…” The host draws a card and reads it aloud. They read the card and flip the timer. For example, the card read might say “Name 3 National Holidays.” The hot seat now has 5 seconds to answer the question. The hot seat might then say, “Christmas, Martin Luther King, Jr Day, and Labor Day.” Answers vary! Too far fetched or unsure? The majority of the table decides. Feel free to look it up if there is disagreement. If the hot seat has given 3 acceptable answers, they keep the card, which counts for one point.
If the hot seat cannot give all 3 answers in time, then the host now has a chance to answer. The timer is restarted, and now they have the chance to come up with a unique set of 3 answers from the same category. No previous answers may not be used. If they can’t answer, play continues around the table until either a player or team gives 3 answers within 5 seconds or the card has gone around the table back to the initial hot seat, who scores a point, even without answering correctly.
Play then returns to the next player or team, placing them in the hot seat. The cards and timer is passed to the right, who is now the new host, and play continues as normal.
Winning the Game
At the end of the established rounds, each player or team counts up their cards, each worth one point. The player or team with the most points is the winner!
Tie? If at the end of the decided rounds there is a tie, the tied players play one more round and whoever scores the point, wins!
