Kings Corner, or Kings in the Corner, uses a standard deck of cards. Players try to play their hand before their opponents. If you’re familiar with Solitaire, it’s an easy learn as it follows similar rules.
Overview
- 2-4 players
- Ages 10+
- 10-15 min gameplay
Similar to Solitaire, players play their cards in alternating colors in order of sequence. For example, if an 8 of spades is in the foundation pile, the next card played could be either 7 of hearts or diamonds. Kings are high, aces are low.
Game Set Up
Shuffle and deal 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining deck in the center in reach of all players. This is your stockpile. Turn the first 4 cards over, placing a card on each side of the stockpile, forming a cross when set up. These are your foundation cards.
If playing multiple hands, designate a point to which the game ends. For example, if playing to 50, rounds continue until one player goes over 50.
Gameplay
Game begins with the player to the left of the dealer. That player picks up a card from the stockpile and attempts to play as many cards as they can. Playing a card or cards include:
Playing a card on a foundation card. The card played must be sequential order going down, kings to aces in the opposite color. Here the black of clubs 4 and red 3 of diamonds are being played on the red 5 of diamonds.
Playing a “King in the Corner”. Kings can be played in the corner spaces of the cross. Once a king has been played, all players on their turns can play on it using the same sequence of opposite color and sequential number.
Moving a foundation pile to another pile if in correct order of sequence and color. Example: Move the black 10 of spades to the red jack of hearts to the kings pile in the corner following the order of play; opposite colors/lower sequential numbers.
Play any card or sequence of cards in the now empty foundation. Any card from your hand can be placed in the now empty foundation spot.
When that player can no longer play, the player to their left picks up a card and attempts to play as many cards as they can using the same order of play as above. Play continues around the table until one player has played all of their cards.
Winning the Game
The first player to play all of their cards wins or if playing multiple rounds, the player with the lowest score wins.
To keep score over multiple hands, you count each card left in hand as one point, with the exception of Kings, which are 10 points.
